Welcome to the Gallery of Gay Action Figures, Northstar. Hope you survive the experience!
He came out in the pages of Canadian superteam Alpha Flight, but he became more famous when he joined the pages of the highly popular X-Men series. He’s got superspeed, can fly, has a twin sister and is both a former Olympic skier and Québécois separatist terrorist - what’s not to love? Except the terrorist part. But he speaks French! Now if only that crush on Iceman had paid off…
Sigh.
Today we celebrate the life of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, who we recently named one of the 10 Best Gay and Bisexual Science Fiction Characters, as we honor him with a place in our Gallery of Gay Action Figures. Let us now pause a moment to reflect on the life of Dr. N-Furter.
Frank spent his early childhood days on transexual Transylvania idolizing Fay Wray’s wardrobe. As a young man his days of academic study focused on biochemical research. Nights were spent doing The Time Warp, presumably in lingerie. Frank was later relocated to the Earth-based Frankenstein Place where he continued his scientific study and threw lavish parties for his fans. He was an excellent cook (specializing in meatloaf) and one hell of a lover. His premature death at the hands of jaded coworkers was regrettable to say the least.
In his loving memory, we give you Dr. Frank-N-Furter.
He asked for nothing, and he received it; in abundance.
Why, yes, you are staring at a gay action figure’s chest hair.
Freddie Mercury, née Farrokh Bomi Bulsara, the inspiration for said chest hair, was perhaps better known as the lead singer of Queen, who we recently named the number one geek band of all time.
Freddie has the honor of being one of the few entries in the GGAF based on a real person and not a fictional character. And while there’s some debate as to whether or not he was openly gay, there’s no question that he was a killer queen.
Meet Torchwood’s Captain Jack Harkness, a 51st century bisexual time traveler and one of our favorite LGBT sci fi characters.
The action figure is from the Doctor Who collection, though we don’t recall him wearing an ascot at any point so not sure what that’s about. Are ascots some kind of action figure code for bi, and if so what does that say about Fred from Scooby Doo?
Gallery of Gay Action Figures
We honor our favorite Springfield lackey with the inclusion of “Resort Smithers” which, while only one of several Smithers action figures currently on the market, is in our humble opinion the most gay, or as Marge would say, “festive”.
It’s not easy gaying up Smithers another notch. This is the guy with a naked Mr. Burns screen saver, who vacations in a gay resort, has a mysterious past connection with animated John Waters, and is the president of the Malibu Stacy fan club.
We salute you, Waylon Smithers, Jr, and our Gallery of Gay Action Figures is honored by your cromulent inclusion.
