Holy cat fights! I normally don’t care much about Hollywood gossip, but this is just too much fun. If you haven’t been following the bizarre and seemingly baseless feud between William Shatner and George Takei, here are a couple of clips to get you up to speed.

What a smooth talker!

Some people have implied that Shatner is homophobic based partly on the words “terrible, terrible secret” about Takei’s homosexuality. In Shatner’s defense, the full quote is:

“[Takei felt bad about himself and was always] being fearful that somebody would find out this terrible, terrible secret. So he thought.”

I don’t think he was saying that being gay is a terrible secret, but rather that it must have seemed that way to Takei. I’ve also seen the “sickness and psychosis” comments taken out of context. Whether Shatner is justified in what he says about Takei or not, his words don’t seem to be about Takei as a gay man but about Takei in general.

I can’t help but be swayed by Takei’s smooth manner and re-assuring voice, but for the record: girls, you’re both pretty, so let’s all have a hug and vote “No” on California’s Proposition 8 together.
