July 22nd, 2008As Long As We’re Sharing Trailers
Clive Barker’s The Midnight Meat Train has had a rough time.
The original director left the production early on, and the setting was changed from NYC’s eerie underground to the decidedly less spooky subways of LA. But since I last wrote about it, the release date has been shifted a couple of times.
Things may not be looking good for the movie itself, but I did enjoy this trailer, which is almost a short film in its own right.
According to Wikipedia:
First, The Midnight Meat Train was set for a May 16, 2008 release but since The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian was coming out on the same day it was delayed. Next it was set for an August 1, 2008 release date but since The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was releasing on the same day, it is currently unknown whether it will be limited or wide.
It’s interesting that the only trailer I found was in Korean. Perhaps it won’t show here at all?

Hello! First time posting. Nice site!!!
Wow, great post. It’s good to see Brian Taylor making his cameo! We went to the same film school and had the same instructors. Brian and Mark are the biggest success stories from The Los Angeles Film School. Can’t wait for Crank 2. Didn’t mind the first. This lil trailer for Midnight Meat Train looks gnarly as hell.

Thanks, Nelson! :)
That’s the old trailer, though, it does get me thinking about the art of trailer-making.
The old one makes the movie seem like your standard Hollywood horror, but the one in Korean really sells the idea of terror in the subway. On the other hand, I’d be really disappointed if I went in having only seen that Korean trailer but got the film as it appears in the English trailer. So which is a better trailer?
They share that last scene of the guy hanging in the train, though. Disturbing.

I prefer the Korean trailer. If your idea is to get people to pay for a ticket, the Korean one is more effective than the American one.
I wonder if the Korean one would get through past the MPAA, though. Given the buckets of blood and all.
