Huffers in Seattle! Nothing changes.Besides being what I call Marc when he comes back from some industry party (several vodkas later), Drinky Crow is the name of the alcoholic crow in Tony Millionaire’s strip Maakies. Although it’s syndicated nationwide, I first read and fell in love with Maakies in Seattle’s wonderful The Stranger, the only local alternative weekly that I ever regularly read from cover to cover (apologies to the LEO, Village Voice and City Paper folks).

Some of you may remember the Maakies Flash animations from late 90s Saturday Night Live or perhaps you saw the pilot for The Drinky Crow Show on the Cartoon Network last year.

Take the Fruit and Beer Gay

Details aren’t readily available, but it looks like Adult Swim will have a full season of The Drinky Crow Show sometime next year. The Amazon page for the upcoming book The Maakies with the Wrinkled Knees has some interesting casting notes:

“Drinky Crow may be the drunken star of the weekly comic strip Maakies, but more often than not, he plays straight man to the hapless ape, Uncle Gabby. Here is the newest collection of Tony Millionaire’s strip, never before published in book form. The suicide jokes may come less frequently than in earlier years, but the comedy and superb drawing style are at their peak, as is the volume of triple-X cartoon booze consumed. Catch the new animated The Drinky Crow Show on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim starring the voices of Billy West, Dave Herman, Becky Thyre, and Tom ‘Spongebob’ Kenny.”

How could an animated series go wrong with Billy West and Tom Kenny involved?

For a preview, here’s Uncle Gabby and Drinky Crow fishing in one of those old Flash animations.
