February 29th, 2008Where’s Neil When You Need Him? (Hint: Right Here)
I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that Neil Gaiman and the good people at Harper Collins planned to celebrate his blog’s birthday by making one of his books available online for free.
They’ve made good on the promise, so for the next month, you can access American Gods at this link.
I think it’s a great thing to do to get new readers hooked and reward current fans, but to be honest, I spend too much time in front of a computer as it is. If you want to pick up a paperback copy, here’s the Amazon link.
I haven’t read American Gods yet, so I can’t review it, though I can say I’m enjoying Anansi Boys right now.

It’s nice that they went with one of the best titles, and didn’t cheese out by offering something lesser known and/or not as strong.

The only Neil Gaiman book I’ve read is Coraline, and that was years ago. Maybe this book will get me hooked like everyone else seems to be… or not.
I can’t make up my mind whether I want to see the Coraline movie that’s coming out, though.

I read about half of American Gods and then stopped. I don’t mean to say that it was bad though because I forget to finish books all the time. I’ll start something and then put it down for a while. A while turns into a long time.
I thought it was good though, reminds me a lot of the Tori Amos album Scarlet’s Walk which I’m sure has some influence from Neil and Tori’s friendship. I’m almost certain that the song “Wednesday” is about one of the main characters.

I’m afraid to start looking for Tori Amos/Neil Gaiman connections.
I saw a post on his blog about beekeeping the other day. That alone probably connects to half of her last album somehow.
Madison: Does it help that Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French are doing a couple of voices? If I get a chance to screen this one, I’ll definitely let you know what I think. The trailer looks great to me, but I’m not sure about the 3-D stuff.
