February 26th, 2008DVD Releases (02.26.2008)
Winters north of 60 are long, dark and cold. Why did no one think to set a vampire movie in what must be an ideal vampire habitat before Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith’s horror comic? The Blu-ray disk contains a special “30 IMAGES OF NIGHT - Graphic Novel to Film Comparison Gallery”.
Yes, there are factual errors in the movie which seem to bother some: Barrow is not cut off from the world completely during winter, the demographics are all wrong (too small, too white) and Wikipedia tells us that Barrow doesn’t even have a sheriff, portrayed in the movie by Josh Hartnett.
People, it’s a movie. Enjoy it.
(While you can, mwahahahahaha!)

Dark Shadows: The Beginning (No. 3 Episodes 71-105)
Long before evil doll Timmy captured the hearts of the fans of Passions, Dark Shadows entertained the daytime soap set with its coterie of supernatural dramatists. This DVD includes some of the earlier stories pre-dating Barnabas, the 200-year-old vampire and probably the best-known character of the series.
Them (a.k.a. Ils)
Not the ant movie from the 50s. Amazon says:
“The Film That Terrified Europe Has Come To America - A young couple lead a happy, quiet life in the countryside. But little do they know they’re being surrounded. When night falls, the couple will come face to face with THEM. Who are they? What do they want? The answers will take them to the very limits of fear itself.”
The Rage
Well, this makes no sense at all, but it sounds gory. IMDb says:
“A crazed scientist experimenting with a rage virus on innocent victims in a laboratory in the woods. When his monstrous subjects escape and vultures devour their remains, they became mutations seeking to feed on humans.”
Ghost Hunters (Season 3, part 2)
We talked about the international version of this Sci Fi Channel series in a recent vlog. Entertaining, but I’m not sure why you’d want to own it.
Dark Chamber
IMDb trivia:
“The cult featured in the film, the Black Circle, was based on an actual group. In 1984, in Northport, Long Island, a few High School dropouts formed a cult named the Knights of the Black Circle. Two of its members, who were both heavily involved in drugs, brutally murdered one of their friends when he refused to profess allegiance to Satan.”
Winterbeast
I haven’t seen it, but others have reviewed is as a so-bad-it’s-good kind of movie. IMDb says:
“In a wintery kind of town somewhere, people are being killed off by possessed totem poles.”
Brocéliande
Amazon says:
“Chloe is an archaeology student at a university that specializes in Celtic history. Since arriving at the school, a series of inexplicable murders have occurred. It all comes to a head in the mystical forest of Broceliande, a forest steeped in Celtic legend, where Chloe is working on an archaeological dig of ancient tombstones. While excavating, a thing better left undiscovered is awakened.”
The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue (2-Disc Special Edition)
This movie has too many alternate names. IMDb says:
“Brought about by the use of a new, radiation emitting device intended to destroy insect’s nervous systems, the dead are brought back to life due to the jump start the radiation provides to their nervous systems. After the murder of a woman’s estranged husband, police suspect the woman, her sister and a relative stranger (who was only along because the sister had run into his motorcycle only hours prior) of involvement in the murder, and as the bodies begin to accumulate the police chief becomes more and more convinced of their involvement.”
Invisible Man: The Complete Series
26 remastered episodes, the entire series, on DVD for the first time.
Highlander: The Source
If there can be only one, then why are they now giving us part five of this franchise that everyone forgot years ago?

The New Frontier Justice League movie looks great. The cast is genius (although I’m sure most people will say they miss the original Batman voice actor) and from what I’ve heard, the graphic novel was phenomenal.
