One of the perks of being a Star Trek actor is that, thanks to the radically different looks of different species, you could potentially be asked back to play multiple characters.

Witness Jeffrey Combs. In addition to various one-off roles, he’s been the Ferengi Liquidator Brunt, the smarmy Vorta Weyoun and the Andorian Shran, all very different characters.

Sometimes you don’t even need to alter the makeup that much. Salome Jens had such similar appearances as the ancient humanoid in TNG’s “The Chase” and as the Dominion’s female changeling that I almost anticipated that they’d discover a connection between the two races.

Now actor Greg Ellis is joining the interspecies actors club.

Though most recently seen in the backdoor pilot for the new Knight Rider series, he played Cardassian Ekoor in the final episode of DS9. He should be able to forgo the the makeup and prosthetics in his new role as Chief Engineer Olsen in the new Star Trek movie.
