February 20th, 2008Another Day, Another Wolverine Casting Update
There sure are a lot of characters in the Wolverine movie, huh?
Last week, I wrote that Wolverine as a character seems to be getting too much attention. Now some commenters fear there may be no room for him in his own X-Men Origins movie, what with confirmed appearances by Sabretooth, Deadpool, Gambit, Silver Fox and now Kestrel.
I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Ken Leung gets more screen time in a busy episode of Lost than he did in all of X-Men: The Last Stand. Some of the other incidental mutants were so incidental that I couldn’t keep track of who was supposed to be who.
The rumor that Ryan Reynolds will play Deadpool has been confirmed, and a couple of new cast members have been announced since yesterday.
Though a lot of people imagined Josh Holloway in the role, Taylor Kitsch has been cast as Gambit. You may remember Kitsch as Kyle “Chocodile” Cho, the first guy to get snaked in Snakes on a Plane, but I doubt that you do.
Will.i.am, of the Black Eyed Peas, will play John Wraith, aka Kestrel, a paranoid teleporter and former subject of the Weapon X program. As far as I know, this is Will.i.am’s first role, so it’s a bit surprising, but let’s give him the benefit of the doubt.

I’m sure this has been said to death but I wish they would just do the original classic 4-episode Wolverine miniseries, with the Japan story, the ninjas, and all that good stuff. Ah well.
