He’s Super Duper (Thanks for Asking)
Super gay comic So Super Duper from artist Brian Andersen is a totally fun series in the super-team genre.
Closeted gay empath Psyche joins foremost super-team Amazin’naughts, but his not very impressive powers draw him into conflict with nasty teammate Halo. Psyche wrestles with his sexuality, harbors a secret crush on a teammate, and struggles to fit in, all while complaining to best gal pal Skip, the superhero hair stylist.
So Super Duper is super fun because it successfully pulls off a near-parody of superhero comics while respecting the genre and offering a compelling story and a central character who, perhaps ironically, truly elicits the reader’s empathy.
The writing isn’t the only fun part of So Super Duper; the art reads more like a stylized cartoon than comic art and really makes the characters and action come to life. The pairing of this style of art with the smart writing and strong characterization reminds me of the also super fun and super gay cartoon Sissy Squad, which is sometimes shown on Logo’s animation show Alien Boot Camp.
