January 19th, 2008Teeth: Yes, the Movie about Vagina Dentata
Friends, not since Angela Baker (Sleepaway Camp I, II, and III) have I rooted so much for the anti-heroine of a horror flick.
Teeth (every rose has its thorns, says the poster) revolves around Dawn, an abstinence-only advocate with a secret. Namely vagina dentata, i.e. she has razor sharp teeth where no teeth should be. The not-so-subtle Simpsonesque nuclear power plant looming in the background of all the shots of the town makes clear the cause.
At first horrified by this “adaptation” Dawn quickly learns to use it to her advantage. I’m not going to re-hash the plot. You know what’s going to happen 20 minutes before it happens. The point, though, is waiting it out to see that, yes, they just did that in a movie, and, yes, everyone’s laughing. This is definitely one film you want to catch in the theater or with a group if on DVD.
- I have no fear of vagina dentata, but it was still kinda icky to see, no, hear in action.
- The creepy brother was kind of hot (and I felt bad for him?)
- I hope part 2 is less art film and more B movie.

If creepy brother is the guy in the right picture, that is John Hensley who plays Matt on the Tv show Nip/tuck. It’s not sci-fi but I recommend it… mostly the first 2 season. ;)

Yes, that’s him.
I don’t watch Nip/Tuck, but after reading this, I think I should start (warning: spoilers)

THIS MOVIE IS GENIUS AND VERY WELL DONE. IT’S NOT OFFENSIVE TO WOMEN AS I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. IT’S A CULT CLASSIC!!!!

I could be way off, but I thought this fell into the “empowering” category. I mean, sure, it’s gory, but it’s clear who’s in control here.
