I wasn’t too impressed with tonight’s premiere of “Be All My Sins Remembered” (BAMSR). But this was my first experience with the Stargate universe (barring the 90s movie), so I figured I should give it another chance.

Luckily, they aired the first episode of Season 1, “Rising, Part 1” on the Sci Fi Channel the other day.

That episode was a lot more interesting than tonight’s, and I finally got more of a sense of the uniqueness of each character, something I felt missing from BAMSR.

Maybe the new episode is not one of the best? Or is the first episode just particularly good? Any Gaters who can weigh in?

If you just need to get caught up on the last season, the Sci Fi Channel is replaying the first half of Season 4 today, starting at 11AM and leading up to the new episode at 10PM, so set your DVRs.

After having watched the latest episode of Stargate Atlantis, I’d have to rate it one of the best of the series. But that evaluation comes with a big qualifier - it is NOT a good episode to introduce new viewers to the series or to the Stargate franchise in general. There is zero character development in this episode and the major plot points are all pay-offs from earlier episodes this season, from past seasons, and even from episodes of SG-1.

If you’re checking out SGA for the first time, season 1 episode 1 “Rising” is the best one to watch, because it explains the premise for the new series well and introduces the main players for Atlantis.

However, if you’ve been a loyal fan of SGA since day 1 (or even longer with SG-1), then BAMSR is like a huge “thank you for keeping the faith” from the writers and producers of the show.

Like I said in the vlog, I’ve been watching Stargate Atlantis more since that initial review. I just started season 4 and was really excited to see Jewel Staite (Kaylee from Firefly) as Dr. Keller. Great casting, and it looks like she’s building a nice sci fi career. I think she’s only 25, so I can’t wait to see what’s next. Serenity 2? :)
