Protagonize: Choose Your Own “Addventure”
Remember those old Choose Your Own Adventure books?
Make that concept collaborative, and you get an “addventure”. Fans of this type of literature should check out Protagonize:
“Protagonize is an online community dedicated to the (nearly) lost art of the addventure (yes, that’s spelled right), a very specific type of collaborative fiction. Early forms of this on the web date back over a decade, when Snoot.com popularized a site called “Choose Your Own Schizophrenia”, an collaborative fiction site popular in the mid-to-late ’90s. Of course, this all dates back to the old Choose Your Own AdventureTM series that started back in 1979 and ran until 1998, published by Bantam Books.”
If you just want to read, you can choose from various categories and dive in. What gives Protagonize potential, though is that you can log in and contribute stories of your own. The site just went live, so go add some content for those of us who can’t write (and keep it from being over-run with crap).

Some of the more useful features:
- Subscribe to stories by RSS,
- Leave markers to trace back to earlier points,
- The usual web 2.0 (rate stories, share with a friend, tag clouds)
